Lesson Topic
IXL review - Syllables
Lesson Outline
Teddy worked on IXL activities and continued working on math and English skills. The benefit of using the IXL app is that it identifies areas that are in need of improvement and offers continued practice. Teddy has shown improvement in phonics, and although he prefers doing exercises in math, he has been compliant in following directives and completing activities in both subject areas. Today we worked on syllables. I explained that words are made up of syllables, and each syllable has one vowel sound. To count syllables, I showed teddy that he could try clapping as he said each part of a word. I also showed him that he could also count how many times his jaw dropped as you said each part of the word We practiced with a few of these strategies (clapping and jaw drops) to figure out how many syllables certain words have After a bit of prompts and practice, Teddy improved his ability to figure out the number of syllables in words and appeared to enjoy this exercise.
