Given the option to use drawing prompts or free draw, Aiden chose to free draw in his sketchbook. I had relaxing piano music playing while he drew.

I reviewed the course textbook with him, and we discussed his goals for this course. Aiden's goals are to draw realistically and draw "really cool drawings." When I asked him what he meant by "really cool drawings," he defined them as realistic. I showed him the before and after drawings of the students in the textbook, so he could see that his goals are realistic and attainable.

It was a great first day!
