Lesson Topic
conservation of mass
Lesson Outline
Use measurement of the amounts mass before and after a reaction. Present the reaction which shows the decomposition of mercury oxide by heat. Write the correct formula for all participants, and determine the reactants and the products. Show how the equation can be written in both directions.. Insert the masses for the reactant and for one of the products, mercury. Elicit how to determine the mass of the second product, Oxygen. Have a correct algebraic equations set up to solve for X. Present a second reaction regarding carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and oxygen. Present masses for 2 of the substances and determine the unknown mass.
Elicit and state the law of Conservation of Matter.
