Keith Haring Unit

Lesson Outline
I introduced Remington to artist Keith Haring who became famous for his outline subway drawings of people and animals. Haring's style was unique and exciting, and he was influenced by Disney and Dr. Seuss illustrations and Peanuts comics. Haring used simple symbols in his work to show messages like hearts for love and so on. Remington started to work on a set of worksheets about Haring’s art. He practiced drawing outline figures in Haring's style. We also posed our bodies like Haring's figures and timed how long we could hold the poses. We also looked at symbols in my Symbol Sourcebook. Eventually, Remington will create a large mural on paper for the school walls.
