Lesson Outline
Today Ayden began his math lesson by practicing his 5x tables. He did a timed drill, and then proceeded to learn lesson 2-5, Subtracting Whole Numbers. Ayden subtracted numbers to thousands with and without regrouping. He practiced several problems with guidance and then did some independently. He already had some background knowledge about regrouping. We discussed and practiced rounding to get an estimate before solving the actual problem. Then after he solved the problem he compared both answers to check to see if the answer seemed reasonable. We also discussed subtraction being the inverse operation of addition, and that he can use addition to check his answers in subtraction problems. In Fast ForWord, Ayden did a great job today. He read very well and was more careful about choosing the "best answer". He played Canine Crew, Book Monkeys and Twisted Pictures. These activities help improve decoding skills and knowledge of rhyme, synonyms, and homophones. He paired words according to semantic and phonological principles. Great job today, Ayden!
