review nouns, possessive nouns, sight words
Lesson Outline
Patrick reviewed the concept of nouns by playing HeadBands. Without looking, he chose a noun card to wear on his headband, while his opponent did the same. He had to try to identify what noun was on his headband by asking a series of questions beginning with the main idea. Am I a person, place or thing? If thing was determined, he needed to decide it's category; food item, animal, or man made object, followed up follow up detail questions. Patrick did great with this. He learned that possessive nouns show ownership. We brainstormed some examples in his classroom and he learned where the position of the apostrophe and -s belong, and understood the concept that even though an -s was added to the noun, it doesn't mean there are more than one of that noun, but instead, that it has possession of something. He learned and recorded 4 new sight words; two, her, our, and they. He read these words in context while he read "Animals."
