Constitution
Lesson Outline
Today we reviewed prior lessons and introduced the U S. Constitution as the document that provides the framework for our national government. We discussed the three branches of government, and emphasized that, with the United States' emergence as an independent nation, the thirteen colonies became thirteen states. We addressed the concept of statehood, including the fact that each state has its own capital and branches of government. From this we segued into Florida as a state, because we are going to begin focusing on Florida next week. Ayden understands that states have capitals, and specifically stated the name of Florida's capital. We discussed the fact that, although the thirteen colonies were ruled by England until achieving independence, Florida was ruled by more than one other country, depending on the time period involved. Ayden asked a lot of good questions, answered my questions, and generally seemed to enjoy himself, as he told Judie when she came in at the very end of the session. A good day.
