Lesson Outline
Patrick practiced reading and spelling short e words that contain both -e and -ea. He wrote a word down and then used a symbolic alphabet chart to create the same word in symbols to develop his fine motor skills. It was very difficult for Patrick to transfer the image of an arrow pointing to the left or right. Each time he would try, it would go up or down at an angle. Sometimes it wouldn't even resemble the lines of an arrow. We practiced air writing on his desk, using his pointer finger and traced the shape through his imagination. After much repetition of making it larger, smaller, etc. he improved when using the pencil and paper. But still wasn't able to draw a direct arrow. I sent home 4 examples for him to work on at home. I read Tiger's Big Surprise. He was engaged into the story and made reasonable predictions and connections to the text. He identified an elephant as a giraffe and when I asked him to guess again, he couldn't think of the name of the animal. I told him it was an elephant and when it came up again a second time, he couldn't recall the name I told him. We talked about the characters and events that they were involved with. He completed an activity sheet describing the setting (where and when) and drew an illustration to match
