Reading and Writing
Lesson Outline
Patrick reread Level D Where Animals Live and successfully determined the main idea for each animal habitat and then for the whole story. His fluency was much better today. Patrick and I chose a a book from the book closet about dolphins and took turns reading. He seemed interested and motivated to read a real book rather than from the anthology or Reading A - Z. Then Patrick and I created a journal for daily writing consisting of 3 parts: journaling, response to reading and prompts. Each day Patrick can choose what he wants to write about within these 3 categories. Today he chose prompts. He had an excellent attitude:) He worked the hardest I have ever seen him work in language arts today!

Lesson Comments
Today Kim shared Stephen's journal with us. She explained what he does and then Stephen actually read an entry to Patrick and I. This was very motivating to Patrick and helpful to my instruction! I used her journaling idea to incorporate into Patrick's daily language arts sessions. Seeing another student's writing in his age group was very helpful to him!
