Session Date
Lesson Topic
Introduction to step 4.1 silent E
Lesson Outline
I introduced magic E which Patrick was familiar with. He easily read closed syllable words with magic e added (hope/hope, cub, cube). Next he read word cards from Step 3.5 and step 4.1, multi syllabic words with welded sounds, then silent E words. He was just a little restless from his previous session so I taught him some of the loop letters for cursive writing. This calmed him right down and he was able to focus. He read words lists with Magic E words and got 15 out of 15 correct. Then he read 10 sentences for fluency. After he completed the sentences, he read a three paragraph story and was able to retell in his own words. He did a great job on his reading and was enthusiastic about the cursive writing.
Assignment
One line of each of the cursive letters each day.

Lesson Comments
Patrick was restless having just had a session on reading. I had brought some Wilson cursive to show him and he was quite interested. After practicing some letters, he was able to continue with his reading with much better focus. Cursive writing is especially helpful to dyslexic children as letter reversals are impossible, b and d can be mixed up, and it is far more fluid.
