Sight Words, Word Stems and Fluency
Lesson Outline
Patrick and I started the day with sight word bingo using words from sets 1, 2, and 3. Patrick helped me make the cards and we each created our own boards. Then I introduced the new word stems for the week and we played Roll-A-Word. After that Patrick practiced word ladders on the white board with each stem. Next, Patrick read 8 sight word sentences and phrases. Then he had to determine the sentences from non-sentences. At first, he said they were all sentences. I reminded him of the sentence buddy he made, which help him go back and distinguish between the sentences and non-sentences correctly. Later, we played Silly Sentences. Patrick made two sentences and read them aloud. Lastly, we worked on decoding with an instructional level book Henry and Mudge. We focused on reading the whole word (not dropping endings).
