Lesson Outline
Today, after a quick recess and snack, we started our lesson with the sound drill. This time Patrick stood on a balance board and looked over his shoulder alternating sides for each side. The gross motor involved with holding the board steady and alternating helps with memory. He enjoyed this so much we used the board during much of the lesson today. He then read flashcards with magic e words and multisyllabic closed syllables words. Afterwards he sorted them into two groups and marked the vowel sounds with either a brev or macron. Instead of reading random sentences, he then read a story silently while making "a movie" in his head. After reading once, he told me the story in his words. Then we went back and scooped the sentences for fluency. We reread the story with the proper phrasing. Patrick was attentive and engaged throughout the lesson.
