Dollar Comparison: 1958 vs 2015
Lesson Outline
We went through a comparison of 1958 vs 2015 prices (based on the tutor's recollection of 1958.) We listed today's prices for the same items. We calculated that prices had increased over 1000% while the minimum wage had improved by 650%. Hence a bag of groceries costing $10 in 1958 would chew up 25% of the 1950's guy's paycheck whilst in 2015, the same bag of groceries (over $100) would eat up 42% of the modern guy's weekly paycheck. That would suggest that an increase in the minimum wage would be in order.

Lesson Comments
Cal seemed to be quite interested in this "experiment." It included algebra skills practice (calculating increases and percentage increases and arithmetic mean (average).)
