Bobby completed a KWL chart to identify what he knows, wants to learn, and at the end of the session, listed the new things that he learned. Using real media clips and images, and the Brain Pop episode on Civil Rights, we discussed at length the issues surrounding the Civil Rights Movement and the causes and effects of the Civil Rights movement. We discussed sit ins, nonviolent protests, the Supreme Court's role, among other issues. He completed a quiz, and we discussed much new vocabulary during our session including boycott, overturn, integration, etc.
