Lesson Outline
Becca was in a great mood today! She was energetic, very verbal, and full of laughter. We started our morning with a coloring activity sheet, which represented the letter b for bear, butterflies, ball, and balloons. I colored a balloon as a model for Becca to color the rest of balloons and for her to practice coloring in the lines. I would tell Becca "Let's color the balloons, not the entire paper." After the coloring activity, we discussed the letter b and the sound b makes. I showed Becca a few pictures that began with the letter b, such as bat, bike, and box and asked her to tell me what the pictures were. Then, I showed Becca a few pictures that did not begin with the letter b, such as rug, man, and pot. I asked Becca to name what each picture was and asked her if the word began with the b sound. For our morning news I asked Becca about her birthday this weekend. I asked Becca how old she was and she responded six years old. I asked Becca if she had cake for her birthday and she responded Yes. I asked Becca if she had chocolate or vanilla cake and she responded with chocolate cake. I was not sure what kind of cake she actually had but I thought it was still important to have our morning news discussion. After snack, Becca and I read the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears. Then, we read an emergent reader of the story and did a picture card recall. Finally, Becca and I watched an educational video of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, which she loved it so much she wanted to watch it over and over! In between tasks Becca and I would take breaks and if she completed a task I would reward her with a short phonics video. This seemed to work very well. Becca and I reviewed the story of the Three Little Pigs and Becca recited parts of the story for example I would say "Little Pig Little Pig let me in" and Becca would respond "Not by the hair of my chiny chin chin." We had a wonderful morning and I am very excited to continue working with Becca!
