Tracing, Letter Formation, and Counting
Lesson Outline
Today, Becca and I began our session by tracing dotted lines on worksheets, long, short, and curvy lines. I am trying to give Becca the opportunity to control the pencil and strengthen her pincer grip. Tracing is good practice for fine motor skills, hand/eye coordination, and helps with learning to write upper and lower case letters as well as numbers. First, Becca traced the pattern with her dominant pointer finger a few times and I reminded Becca to look down at the paper as she did it. Then, using the pencil with hand over hand assistance Becca traced the dotted lines. After, Becca used letters A and B manipulatives to help her learn the formation of the these letters. She used her pointer finger to trace the letter in the correct direction. Then, using a pencil we traced upper case letters A and B. She did a great job with this! During art, Becca painted a picture of a fish in the ocean. She did a wonderful job not mixing the colors and following directions. After the painting dried we hung it up on her wall. Becca and I reviewed counting 1-10 and traced each number first with her pointer finger then using a pencil. Finally, read the story "Where is Bear?" by Dr. Suess and discussed the main ideas of the book.
