Lesson Outline
Becca and I began our session by discussing the letter J and the sound J makes. I introduced Becca to our letter art craft of the day, which was Jj stands for Jellyfish. Becca allowed me to place pink paint onto her hands in order to make her handprints on construction paper. The palm of her hand represents the head of the jellyfish and her fingers represent the tentacles of the jellyfish. Then, we cut out the letter J and glued the jellyfish hand prints to the top of the letter J. After the paint dried we hung our letter craft on her wall. She did a wonderful job with this activity listening very carefully to the directions given. Becca completed a worksheet on the letter J coloring the pictures that began with J. In addition, Becca completed a worksheet drawing lines to show how jet planes fly tracing straight and curvy lines. Then, Becca and I completed a cut and paste activity creating a Busy J Book. Becca cut out pictures that began with the J sound and glued them in to complete our J Book. To help with Becca's fine motor skill development she traced vertical dotted lines in a picture of humpty dumpty. Then, she colored the picture. Using the iPad, Becca and I watched a quick video of the nursery rhyme "Humpty Dumpty." After, Becca completed another tracing activity with wavy dotted lines and colored the ocean picture. After coloring the fish, Becca watched an educational video on brainpopjr.com about fish. We continued to practiced letter formation using letter C and D manipulatives to trace the formation of each letter with her pointer finger. Using a pencil, Becca traced the letter C and D with hand over hand assistance. Becca was in a great mood and had a very productive day!
