We used the textbook to explore what filled the vacuum of the collapsing Roman Empire--the Franks, Vikings, etc. We further explored the rise of Charlemagne, his alliance with Pope Leo III and his coronation as Emperor of Rome. We went to the computer lab for further research where we got into the Old Testament account of the Tower of Babel as a forerunner of the breakup of Latin into Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Romanian and Albanian with the arrival of Germanic tribes and Moors in Europe.
