Lesson Outline
Checked email inbox at start of class to get Sam on the habit of doing this. Left a note for Sam's Batt teacher for tomorrow at 11:30 to inform her of Sam's live lesson for Writing. Read through teacher emails. Read weekly newsletter. Checked to be sure last week's lesson was completed. Read today's terms and objectives and started lesson. 1. Brainpop on drama. 2. Attempting to get Sam to realize the importance of taking notes to retain information. She can use picture notes or traditional notes using words. I model note taking as soon as any lesson begins. Watched Drama two times to gain meaning of vocabulary mentioned. As I was placing her notes sheet in her 3-ring binder, I looked up and saw her taking an independent quiz and scored 4/5. I looked and saw that the subject was dictionary usage, but we had just watched a brain pop video on drama so I was confused. Then realized that Sam had clicked through the entire lesson for today. The quiz she took was simple and did not encompass the entire (still unfinished) lesson, but she was unaware of what a glossary was, so we looked into Reading Street for an example. Then we backtracked to go to section 3 of 5 of today's Lesson to work through each step. When it was time to begin reading a play, Sam attempted to hide her textbook. Then refused to read because there was a princess in the story. I attempted to look the story up in the online version and it does not mirror the book, it offered a summary not the actual play. I took the book and read aloud 446-450. Then Sam read a half a page and has 450-461 for homework plus the remainder of the Activity and Review sections of Lesson 2. Her focus level is not allowing her to complete a full lesson in one hour. She has the ability. I am unsure as to how long or short of a time a student is expected to complete a lesson.
