Session Date
Lesson Topic
Bacteria and viruses -
Lesson Outline
Tuesday June 07, 2016
12:30 - 2:30; 120 min.
Biology:
Bacteria and viruses -
Dylan and I reviewed the characteristics and classification of bacteria, including the differences between gram-positive and gram-negative strains. We discussed the process of staining bacteria and what makes the blue gram stain, colorize some bacteria, and not others. We listed the diseases that are caused by bacteria, and discovered that only 1% of all bacteria cause disease to humans or other living things. We listed the positive effects (and uses) of bacteria, including yogurt, positive bacteria that lives and protects our digestive systems, and bacteria that allow us to fight other diseases. We then compared and contrasted virus with what we knew about bacteria. We examine the ways viruses infect living things, and learned there are two viral infections; lytic and lysogenic. We played the biology game, using the micro-organism I subject cards.
