Session Date
Lesson Topic
President's Day
Lesson Outline
The girls started their day with practicing emergent writing by drawing family pictures for their journal and talking about them afterwards.
We went to the park to work on our gross motor skills (they love to climb and slide!) and have snack and then to the library to encourage listening, understanding, speaking and relating. While at the park, we discussed Presidents, what some of their responsibilities are and why we observe President's Day.
When we returned to the school, I showed the girls pictures of different monuments and edifices built in honor or memory of some of the Presidents of the United States (Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Mount Rushmore, etc). Then they made their own monuments out of playdough to help develop their fine motor control and foster their creativity.
Gabriela and Laina practiced writing their names also to develop their fine motor skills.
To work on spatial awareness and reinforce their knowledge of shapes/colors, they built castles out of Legos and worked on puzzles. Our morning ended with a "Find It" shape game and reading stories.
