12-7 Circles and Circumference
We learned that a circle is a set of all points that are a given distance from a point called the center. Then we learned that line segments called chords can be drawn between points on the circle. The longest chord goes through the center of the circle and is called the diameter. Next we learned that the radius of a circle is a line segment that connects the center to a point on the circle. We learned that the distance around a circle is the circumference. The circumference of a circle is a little more than three times the diameter. Then we learned that the ratio of the circumference to the diameter for every circle is always the same and is called pi. The value of pi is 3.14 or 22÷7. To determine the circumference of a circle you multiply pi times the diameter.
