Lesson Outline
We learned that plant and animal coverings provide protection from: predators, disease, injury, and drying out. Then we learned that fur keeps mammals warm such as lions, monkeys, rabbits, and dogs. Feathers keep birds warm and water out. They also help birds fly. Scales protect fish and allow a gliding side to side swimming motion. Shells provide protection from predators for turtles, armadillos, clams, and snails. Next we learned about plants protective coverings. They have a waxy coating to keep them from drying out when it’s very hot. A cactus has sharp spines for protection from predators.
