Vocabulary Quiz and Essay
Lesson Outline
Hunter took the Vocabulary Quiz today. We will revisit in two more weeks. We discussed and practiced use of words, admittedly many, but also acknowledge loss of two weeks of our class, and agreed that he would benefit from more usage and practice and a second Quiz at that time. We will not add to, other than those used in context of Mark Twain's satire "Advice to Youth" which we continued analyzing today. Part of lesson is to guess at old English word meaning from context and then define. (beseech, didactic, lark, etc.) Hunter did recall many of the vocabulary words with my reminders/hints. We discussed his essay topic at length today and put together a packet of information along with his marked-up notecards which he will take home over the weekend and bring back, for homework, in our next class, next Tuesday. His homework, admittedly indefinite, is to take a next step towards his goal of writing the essay - either outline form, more complete notecards, or actual pen-to-paper. He has a two page paper on ethical, logical and emotional arguments on newspaper articles and a Newsela article I have provided. I also suggested he simply annotate them to provide notes for the foundation of the essay. He has outline format and pro and con argument from the news op ed.
