Session Date
Lesson Topic
(Considering) Written Arguments
Lesson Outline
We discussed opposing viewpoints from a NYT forum about whether graffiti is art. We also discussed two art-related vocabulary words: ethereal and tactile. I introduced the writer/spoken word poet/cartoonist Sherman Alexie, and we began reading his novel THE ABSOLUTELY TRUE DIARY OF A PART-TIME INDIAN, stopping to discuss Alexie's frequent use of hyperbole as a rhetorical strategy.
Assignment
Katya will write her own one-paragraph argument for/against graffiti. She will also finish the reading (to p. 25) for tomorrow. If she wishes to know more about Alexie, she may read the link that I emailed her after class today (optional).
