Session Date
Lesson Topic
Beluga Whales and ocean life
Lesson Outline
We started the morning by decorating the Rainbow Fish that we created yesterday. They came out awesome, and Loulie loved creating stories to go along with the puppet characters. She gave each fish a special name and created a storyline to go along with the puppets.
Loulie had shared yesterday that she “loved” Beluga whales and wanted to learn more about them. I brought in some books about Belugas, and we read an informational text about Baby Beluga whales. She then filled out an outline on key details and facts about Beluga whales. She did a wonderful job and picked out some very key details. Next, we watched a live feed video of a baby Beluga whale. We created Beluga whale puppets and sang the “Baby Beluga” song by Raffi.
After finishing work on the Beluga whale projects, Loulie took a short “Go Noodle” dance break. She loved the dance moves and thoroughly enjoyed following along with the videos. Next, we practiced measuring and following directions by making “Salt and Flour Playdoh”. She made several ornaments for her family. I will bake them tonight to hasten the drying and tomorrow the plan is to paint and decorate them. Loulie did a super job today and was very animated and engaged the entire time.
