Lesson Topic
Sea turtles, dolphins and an ocean in a bottle
Lesson Outline
We had an exciting last day today. We started by making an ocean in a bottle. We combined water, food coloring and vegetable oil in a bottle and mixed them vigorously. Next, we sealed the bottle with hot glue to prevent leaking. Turning the bottle on its side simulates ocean waves. Next, Loulie wanted to experiment a bit and we created a mermaid ocean in a bottle complete with glittery shimmering water!
Next, we researched sea turtles. We read several texts about the 7 kinds of sea turtles and their characteristics. We made a Hawksbill Turtle with movable legs and head because Loulie decided that the Hawksbill turtle was her favorite. The books described a Hawksbill turtle as gentle, easy going, and friendly.
After lunch and a dance break of “Go Noodle” we looked at some additional books about dolphins and ocean life. We then put together a small flip book of some of the creatures we studied.
It has been a pleasure getting to know Loulie over the past week! She is imaginative, creative, and enjoys creating crafts and learning new things. I am glad I had this opportunity to work with her and wish her and her family the best for 2018.
