(This is first session of a two-week unit on the relationship between history and literature, as exemplified by Arthur MIller's play THE CRUCIBLE. The unit also seeks to familiarize student with basic research methodology and handling of bibliographical sources, and thus culminates in the writing a research paper of approximately six to eight pages + bibliography)
— Provide student with three worksheets and two principal historical sources of Miller's play, and prompt him (student) to research and compare historical characters of John Proctor, Abigail Williams and Rev. Parris with their literary counterparts.
