Lesson Outline
Morgan practiced writing her list 25 spelling and vocabulary words in alphabetical order. In her spelling textbook, she completed vocabulary practice activities. The first was the use of context clues. She read the paragraph and entered the appropriate missing word based on the context. We also looked at the five meanings of the word picture. We read several sentences using the word and identified which definition was applicable. Finally, in her text, she completed a proofreading activity in which she identified spelling errors and misuses of its and it’s. For grammar practice we continued on with our past tense verbs work from yesterday. At the end of the booklet, we completed an activity in which she changed the verb tense in 8 sentences and found the two which were irregular verbs. We then finished writing the final draft of her Rapunzel write about reading project. Morgan reread the writing and made corrections. We also completed a Venn Diagram comparing and contrasting a classic version of Cinderella and The Rough-Face Girl by Rafe Martin. It was interesting to see how these two seemingly different stories had many parallels. For Latin today, Morgan used her flashcards to help her write the Latin words and their definitions twice in her workbook. At the end of our session, Morgan began writing in her journal about her weekend. We discussed her use of conjunctions as she will often begin a sentence with “and” or “but”. We will complete this activity and discuss spelling and grammar in our next session.
