Lesson Outline
This morning we began with practice of spelling list 25. Morgan wrote the words on the wipe board. She had difficulties with through, picture, and valuable, so we did a little extra practice with those. Morgan also finished her journal entry from yesterday. We read over for spelling and grammar. We discussed the use of different transitions instead of writing three sentences in a row starting with the word “then”. In Latin today, we reviewed lesson 17 vocabulary. Later in our session, Morgan tested on the six words. She scored 6/6 on the vocabulary and read four of the six Latin words correctly. We began discussing lesson 18 and writing the flashcards for the vocabulary words. This lesson focuses on the verb to be. We saw it is the most common verb in most languages and shows an existence, not an action. We looked at the singular and plural versions. Our grammar study today focused on singular possessive nouns. Morgan rewrote phrases to use a possessive noun. For example, puddles of the street became the street’s puddles. Additionally, we completed some grammar activities focusing on interrogative vs. exclamatory, past tense, syllables, vocabulary, plural nouns, pronouns, and phonics. For Literature, we continued our study of fairy tales. First, we read, The Three Little Pigs (classic version). After this story, Morgan made a pop quiz to test a friend. She asked questions that require answers involving responses of a who, what, where, why, and how. We also discussed the moral of the story. Next, we read, The True Story of the 3 Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. In this version, the big bad wolf gives his version of the events from the original story. After reading this story, Morgan wrote about the point of view of the wolf and of the pigs. She did a nice job analyzing their views. Finally, we read another version entitled, The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig by Eugene Trivizas and Helen Oxenbury. In this version, the three wolves build their own house of various materials and the big bad pig keeps destroying them (for example, he uses a sledgehammer to tear down the brick house and he uses dynamite to tear down their metal house). Morgan also practiced her Bible verse (Joshua 1:7) as well as performed some cursive lowercase q practice in her handwriting workbook.
