Science Enrichment:
Energy waves -
After reminding ourselves of the definition of matter, Yanuell was tasked with identifying things that have no matter. He included energy, so we explored how energy moves in waves. We determined that sound waves travel on air molecules, and electric energy travels on molecules of metal, through a cord we connect to the outlet. We also determined that ocean waves needed water, and seismic waves need earth to happen. The only energy that does not require the presence of something that has mass and takes up space is light. Light travels through space, which is mostly absent of any matter. We then examined the different wavelengths by which light can travel. We also noted which wavelengths are not capable of penetrating the Earth’s atmosphere.
