Student: Henry Orthwein Teacher: Ms. Nicole Rieman; substituting for Ms. Karen Subject: Wilson Language Time: 01:30 - 02:30 pm I focused on expository paragraph writing with Henry today. We first went on an "adventure" around the campus, looking for various flora that inspired Henry to do further research for his paragraph writing. He found a couple of different flowers and brought them inside. I encouraged him to do the research himself online. We grabbed an iPad and he typed in search words (He was doing a good job spelling correctly, although still asked for confirmation that he was correct. He discovered he found a flower from a 'Dwarf Firebush' and proceeded to write down five facts he found. Continuing on with our task, I asked if he felt more comfortable writing the paragraph out or typing, at which point he began to get frustrated insisting he could not type or write. We found a happy compromise in order to finish our paragraph - he was to dictate and I would type (which I did.) He finished the entire assignment, put together a five sentence paragraph and seemed very positive about his accomplishment. Despite a few moments of frustration, he remained positively engaged throughout his lesson and was proud of himself at the end for completing his assignment. Henry's writing assignment: I found a bright orange flower and did some research online. It is called a dwarf firebush flower. Butterflies and hummingbirds are attracted to that flower. There are two types - the dwarf firebush flower and the native firebush. If you like the facts, give feedback!
