Making ice cream and rock candy
Lesson Outline
Making ice cream led Henry and I into a discussion about the states of matter. Making rock candy involved creating a saturated solution and we discussed the scientific concepts involved. During our second session we went outside and tended the garden. Henry then showed me a carrot tree and explained why it had that name. Then we lifted a box in the garden and found a gecko and a lizard. We ended our session using the internet in an attempt to identify the scientific name of the gecko we found.

It took many attempts to get Henry involved and focused on anything. He basically did whatever he wanted while ignoring me or not hearing me. Once he found something HE wanted to do we were able to interact.
His interactions with the gecko were extremely considerate and empathetic. He was kind to the younger children on the playground too. Henry is full of suprises.
