Essential Questions - Good vs Evil
Lesson Outline
Today, Will reviewed the obituary for William Golding to try and determine what Golding’s viewpoint would be on the essential question as to whether human beings are essential good or evil. Will shared good examples from the text that supported his belief that Golding would have had mixed views on this question due to his experiences in World War II and his experiences working with students. Next, we reviewed a list of 6 key questions about human nature. Will, decided that man was inherently good and wrote a short paragraph defending his viewpoint. We had great discussions today, and Will was able to relate some of his learnings from Jujitsu to our discussion on internal conflict. For homework, Will should read chapter 1 in “Lord of the Flies”. Also, he should write a paragraph response to the question of what makes a society functional or dysfunctional.
