Lesson Outline
Supplemental to the text, I distributed public records reflecting that lobbyist spent more than 3 billion dollars in 2018 attempting to influence legislation. We studied which sectors of the economy spent the most, and then examined which specific industries lobbied the most . Not surprisingly , banks , health care , insurance companies , and business interests were the major contributors. As known companies such as Amazon, Facebook, and Blue Cross were top contributors , we discussed what type of legislation these companies might want to influence . Health care and insurance companies ,for example ,are doubtless concerned about all of the discussion in Congress suggesting "Medicare for All". Sam then took notes about the propaganda methods used by public interest groups to influence public opinion and the other means ,such a lawsuits, public interests groups use to influence public opinion . We will be having a test on political parties and lobbying on Wednesday. For homework,Sam is to study for the test and read pages 316-322 of text and answers questions 1-4 on page 322.
