Lesson Topic
benzodiaepines-
Lesson Outline
Read about and discuss the varied subsets of receptors which are involved in the binding of benzo's and the subsequent binding of GABA to the receptor, with the associated reactions. How the different subsets will cause a different response, from anti anxiety to muscle relation to antispasosis.
Look specifically at librium and valium, their uses and history as well as the adverse affects and the degree of tolerance and dependence. Compare the structure to the barbituric acid molecule which preceded it.

Lesson Comments
We looked at the chemistry of the general molecule and the additional and substitutions which create the differing responses of the benzodiazepines. Discussed the possibilities of dependence and tolerance and the recommendations of the WHO. Trevor seems to want to learn about the actions and receptor alignments.
