Lesson Outline
To conclude our study of US Government, we looked at the greatest influence on American jurisprudence, the common law of England. Sam took notes on the related principles of common law, precedent, and stare decisis, and we discussed the difference between common law and legislation . During our second session, we analyzed the Miranda case as the source of the now famed Miranda warnings and examined the difference between custodial interrogation, when Miranda applies, and non-custodial interrogation when it does not. We then reviewed the protections granted the accused by the 5th ,6th ,and 8th amendments. Sam completed a multiple choice exercise in class on all of the above and did very well. We will commence our review for the final exam next week. For homework,I assigned review reading on the Declaration and the Articles of Confederation.
