In today's review session ,we focused on Congress. I discussed the concepts of apportionment and gerrymandering followed by a review of procedures that govern the House vs those that govern the Senate. We addressed the role of the Speaker of the House and the Rules Committee In the House and the role of the Senate Majority Leader in the Senate as well as the different rules for debate in each chamber including the function of the filibuster and cloture in the Senate.

Colson was very attentive during today's important review session for the Civics Final Exam tomorrow.
Today we began our in class review for next week's Civics final which will focus on the Constitution ,Congress and Article I. I first reviewed the parts of the Constitution, the three branches of government, and the process for amending the Constitution. We then specifically addressed Congress' enumerated powers, the reserved powers , and the system of checks and balances.

United Nations: Mission and Structure: U.N. established in 1945 as a peacekeeping organization. Description of 5 main components of the United Nations: U.N. General Assembly, U.N. Security Council, U.N. International Court of Justice, U.N. Economic and Social Council, and the U.N. Secretariat. The Security General of the U.N. defined as the leader/spokeperson of the U.N. who organizes meetings, writes reports, and reports the decisions/opinions of the U.N. The League of Nations identified as an earlier peacekeeping organization formed in 1920 which the U.S. did not join and was dissolved due to numerous flaws.

Colson was well focused and attentive during today's session on the United Nations. His Civics Final Exam dates were announced for 5/15 and 5/16
During our first segment, we reviewed Aiden's test on chapter 15. We discussed the importance of responding to all of the parts of the essay and worked on an analysis of a passage that required the student to draw an inference from the passage. I explained the syllogistic approach to determining the correct response . We then viewed a brief current events video and discussed implications of the following stories to topics we studied in civics :the war in Ukraine and Bill Gates' decision to fully disburse his foundation 's vast wealth within the next 20 years. We addressed how current US policy impacts both stories.
