Lesson Comments
Jason was tired during our session today. He started out asleep. When I could not wake him by flickering the lights, playing Spanish music, or calling his name and shaking his pillow, I requested Mr. Jordy come and wake him.
Mr. Jordy did help and Jason and I were able to do a short but complete lesson. Once completed, I let Jason rest again until the end of class. When the bell rang, I had Jason sit up again ready for his next class.
Jason colored a picture of pilgrim clothing. We discussed the parts of the clothing: coif (bonnet), blouse, apron, pocket and petticoat. He completed a compare and contract activity on the pilgrims and the Wampanoag.
Jason worked on the unit assessment on fluently adding within 100. Questions pertained to understanding the strategies for adding two-digit numbers involving breaking numbers apart using place value and joining tens and ones in either order and extending these strategies to adding more than two 2-digit numbers. Then, these strategies were applied to solve one- and two-step problems. Jason answered 5 more questions today and has done a great job. We discussed him staying on task longer to get more accomplished each day.
This morning, Jason began with daily review questions on writing double facts, even numbers, ordering numbers, completing a number sentence, and solving a subtraction word problem. Then, he attempted to complete 20 basic addition facts with sums to 20 but struggled with concentration and high energy levels. Finally, Jason answered 4 out of the 13 questions from the Unit assessment on fluently adding within 100 which he will continue to work on tomorrow.
