Jason began with a daily review on completing number patterns, counting coins, telling time, and basic addition and subtraction facts. He also completed a 'Review What You Know' from his workbook on understanding vocabulary, addition and subtraction word problems, and making 10. Finally, we played a game of making 10 together. We took turns flipping over cards from a 1 - 9 deck of cards. If the number needed to make a 10 was on the game card, it was covered with a colored counter. The player with the most counters at the end won the game.
Jason had another great work day today and completed the Topic 3 assessment on adding within 100 using strategies. He answered questions on using a hundred chart and a number line to add tens and ones, breaking apart numbers, using compensation, and solving one- and two-step problems. Jason showed proficient comprehension of these concepts and will move on to applying these strategies to fluently adding within 100. The remainder of his time was spent online playing a 2-digit addition train game.
Jason and I continue to play baseball together.
His favorite part is hitting the ball. He is really hitting the ball well now.
At the end of the class we reviewed all the different positions.
Jason completed his interactive calendar. He read and discussed his vocabulary words. He completed his sentence puzzle of the day. He worked on several pumpkin activities. He explored his new Scholastic Magazine and discussed how people made boats out of giant pumpkins.
Jason and I reviewed voting. We completed the activity "Explore Topic and Key Detail" on page 34 in the Inquiry Journal. We discussed the topic of the passage "Voting Matters", and he located and wrote a key detail. We reviewed the golden rule and discussed real-world examples.
Jason listened and participated in a guided reading exercise as we read Chapter 46 in 'The Wild Robot by Peter Brown pages 150 - 154. Jason was able to recall the characters and we identified several words ending in 'ng.' Jason was tasked with choosing three words and writing them down. He commented that he has rarely ever written words with an X as he wrote down the word "fixing."

Lesson Comments
I subbed for Patty today, Friday, 10-25-24, from 9:47 - 10:42 - LA.
Jason and I acted out spontaneous scenes using the phrase me gusta. He would take a director's clapboard kit and just a theme for a 10 second scene. He might say something like "act out something happy." He would then clap the board and we would act out a scene that fit his description and used the phrase me gusta or no me gusta. He woudl clap the board again and we would discuss what was said in Spanish.
Then, I asked him a series of questions in the format of "Cual te gusta mas ________ o _________?"
And he would answer.
At the very end, he asked me one time the same question in Spanish. But, he will need significantly more repetitions before he is able to use that phrase independently.
