During this final class with Colson at Batt, I decided to dedicate this lesson toward connecting Civics with Sports
because this is one of Colson's top passions. He appreciated watching the 1980 Gold Medal Olympics Miracle on Ie video. It has been a great pleasure having Colson for 2 classes this year and best wishes to him for much personal and academic success in the future.
Colson learned about solstices and equinoxes. He learned how to diagram the Earth's tilt in the summer and winter solstice, and the fall and spring equinox.
We completed viewing a dramatic production of "The Bascombe Valley Mystery" and discussed how the dramatization alters the sequence of the short story yet well captures the characters. As this was Colson's last day, we then completed end of year tasks such clearing his room and returning any school books to the library.

During today's session with Colson, since he has completed his Civics Final Exam and did well, I chose to take class time to discuss his future high school courses (World History and Algebra 1). Due to his final school day at Batt tomorrow, I needed to take time to review the results of his Financial Lit. quiz and to insure that he has a
clear understanding how to determine Return on investment.
I began by reviewing words with the following vowel combinations: oo, ou, ow/oa, oy/oi. Colson read example words and syllabicated as necessary (Megawords 5, List 26, p.1). He read a timed oral reading fluency passage with similar words in just over one minute with no errors. He verbally answered the reading comprehension questions efficiently. We reviewed all morphology and played two rounds of Crazy Moose to build Colson's vocabulary.
To conclude, we co-read Part 1 of the short story "Monkey's Paw." I modeled note annotation. We will finish the story next session.
We worked on solving 2-step algebraic equations. The idea of inverse operations and isolating the variable is still difficult. I assigned several problems for homework.
