In preparation for Monday's final test on the novel, we worked on a practice essay during today's session. I provided as a prompt -Discuss Buck's development during the course of the novel. After I provided the prompt, I explained how to convert the prompt into a topic sentence. I then explained how introduce the main ideas of the essay into the introduction. Colson made an outline and then drafted a first paragraph.

Colson's mother picked him up early so we had a very short session.
Colson researched FDR to discover important information about our 32nd President. He investigated the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbour. He listened to and discussed the speech given by FDR asking congress to declare war on Japan.
Colson learned about how the Earth revolves on its axis causing night and day, how the Earth's tilt on its axis causes the seasons, and how tilt causes the path of the Sun across the sky. We observed and drew diagrams showing these phenomena.

Topic 8-4 Find Volume of Spheres – We learned that the volume of a sphere is the same as twice the volume of a cone that has a base diameter and height that is the same as the sphere diameter. Then we practiced finding the volume of a sphere given the surface area. We understand how to find the volume of a composite figure.
