Hibernation: Shh! Bear Sleeping

Happy New Year 2026!
Lesson Outline
The preschoolers used good motor skills today to create their Happy New Year 2026 project. They had to write each letter of their name on a paper strip, then color the strips, and cut them out. They also had to color their Happy New Year 2026 balloon and cut that out. Finally, they glued each colored letter strip spelling their name to the balloon. We reviewed good control over our marking tool and staying in the lines. We also reviewed good scissor safety practice, and I helped each student on the correct finger placement in the scissor's handle.

Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer, Stained Glass, and Hanukkah
Lesson Outline
The little artists created a Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer out of felt using a step-by-step process. Then they each created another stained glass design to be hung in the window. Last, they met Chef John who prepared potato latkes for them with applesauce and sour cream. We learned about the miracle of Hanukkah.

Stained-Glass Activity
Lesson Outline
Since our little learners are learning the letter "G," and the holiday season is near, I had them create two stained-glass holiday art projects on paper using oil pastels. I demonstrated control over the marking tool and asked them to use good skills in coloring within the lines and filling up the white of the paper. When they finished, I showed them how I rub baby oil on the back of each one to make it transparent. We learned the word transparent. I cut each one out and will have Miss Jaqie hang them up in the Preschool window.

The Letter R for Robot and Reindeer
Lesson Outline
Today, the young artists were given a drawing of a robot with the left side completed and right side blank. The objective was to look at the left side of the drawing and replicate the shapes and lines that they saw on the opposite side of the paper to make the robot whole. This drawing technique helps the little artists with fine-motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and critical thinking. They learned the word symmetry. They also had to trace the word Robot at the top of the paper to reinforce their letter writing skills that they are learning in class. Then they were given a step-by-step how to draw a reindeer worksheet which helped them with observation and sequence skills.

Family Tree Project
Lesson Outline
Each little artist used brown paint to paint her/his traced hand on canvas to be the trunk of the family tree. Then, each little artist got a 12” x 12” canvas to paint a background in any design he or she wanted: rainbows, clouds, sky, sun, etc. I will glue each student's family tree together: tree top and tree trunk on the canvas. The goal is for each student to bring in photos of her/his family members to add to her/his trees.

Family Trees
Lesson Outline
We started working on our family tree project. I traced each child’s hand and wrist individually on canvas paper. Each hand print will be the tree and branches. When each child had their hand and wrist traced, they went to the art table to paint the tops of their trees green with green paint. I will cut out the tree tops and the hand prints to be assembled next class.

How to Draw Spiders, Pumpkins, and Jack-o'-lanterns
Lesson Outline
I was at the drawing board showing our little artists how to draw spiders, pumpkins, and Jack-o'-lanterns. I used easy to follow step-by-step shapes to create our drawings. The little artists had paper and crayons and were able to follow along and create their own drawings. Super work!
