We reviewed for tomorrow's Chapter 2 test. The material focuses on permanent colonial settlement in the 17th century 13 colonies and Caribbean Islands. It is also a time period of eastern Indian wars, and the beginnings of slavery in the colonies in 1619 as well as the Caribbean. Vlad has a good command and understanding of the material. I think he should do very well on tomorrow's test.
Bacon's Rebellion in VA and its significance, the growth of New England....from Plymouth to MA Bay colonies. Congregational churches, Puritans, Theocratic Society. The expansion of New England to CT, RI, NH and ME. Indian wars with the Pequot and King Philip's War.
We reviewed the correct answers for the Chap. 1 test. I suggested that Vlad begin to take copious notes in class as these will only assist him with content review and test prep. Successful, long-term settlementt of the Chesapeake area in VA and MD... Powhatan, Pochahontas, John Smith, the Starving Time, Tobacco Economy...

We discussed Vlad's score on the Chapter 1 test. I think he is relieved that I am not counting it. He honestly said that the timing of the test conflicted with a golf tournament he was in and he didn't take enough time to study. We noted that Vlad's most recently revised schedule now has us meeting tomorrow (Fridays) from 9 - 11. This is new for both of us and I had no idea this change had been made. I mentioned to Vlad that with this extra time on Friday, perhaps we can use some of it for him to get a head start on his weekend A.P. U.S. History HW since he spends every day on the golf course and weekends are especially important to Vlad for his golf. Vlad seemed to like this idea.
Out of a 40 question multiple choice test today - the first in A.P. U.S. History - Vlad scored 50%. He said he didn't feel good about it after he completed it in class today. We move swiftly in A.P. history and the fact if that we really plowed through the first chapter as the book did not arrive until 9/6/18. I would like to NOT count this test in Vlad's GPA since due to the late arrival of his test book. Also, now that Vlad knows what to expect on A.P. Chapter Tests, my hope and expectation is that he will prepare differently for the Chapter 2 test.

We examined early societies in the Americas and their ways of life prior to the arrival of Europeans, the rise of European exploration in the 16th century and patterns of exploratory dominance as it began with Portugal and passed to Spain.
We reviewed Vlad's new A.P. textbook and how it is written and designed to assist students to understand main ideas and themes as they read a new chapter and section. We worked on the first section together today so Vlad could get the feel of the new textbook. He also must begin to highlight as he reads. Vlad shared that he has never really highlighted text before. I explained that with A.P. college level texts, it is a necessity. It is also a great skill to develop in preparation for college.
