Review & Practice
Lesson Outline
We completed viewing Practice Session #3 from AP Central for a review on how to write a solid LEQ (Long Essay Question). Students will have 100 minutes to write the DBQ (document based question) and one LEQ. About 40 of those 100 minutes should be spent on the LEQ. We examined a sample LEQ re: the Columbian Exchange and how it affected peoples in the Americas from 1450-1750. We went through the best step by step process to evaluate and the question and write a solid LEQ response. We then reviewed the process for the best way to approach the DBQ. On the exam students have to evaluate and incorporate 7 historic documents into their DBQ essay. This essay is the is the longest part of the exam and should take about 60 minutes to write. We've been evaluating and practicing DBQs all year. We are focusing on newer tips from AP Central and we will be doing this with Barron's, too as we continue review for the next two weeks.

Joshua did not complete the online Unit 7 review he was assigned over the weekend. We even confirmed he had access to it online before the end of school on Fri., 4/20 I have now given him an extension through Wed., 4/26 to complete. Joshua is at a point where he needs to be reviewing nightly for his AP World History Exam. Our classes are now focusing on review, as well. There was some reading and a small quiz in Barron's in addition to the Unit 7 Review assigned over the weekend. We will assess his progress with that very soon. I checked Joshua's room at the start of first period and he is apparently absent today. I will let him know his HW assignments have been extended through 4/26 on AP Central. Joshua was able to complete some review in Barron's over the weekend. During today's remote class, we viewed the first of of 2023 AP On Demand Review Sessions 1 & 2. Joshua asked to play it on his screen and share it with me as the audio worked best for him when we did this. In this video, we'll looked at sample multiple-choice questions. There are only 55 MCQ over the allotted time of 55 min. on the AP Exam. The the second video focused on reviewing the 3 short answer questions and the allotted time is 40 minutes to answer all three SAQs. Joshua thanked me for extending his Unit 7 Review assignment due date and apologized for not doing the majority of his AP HW this weekend.

Remote 2nd period lesson today. Joshua explained that his Grandma had an unfortunate fall this past weekend and could not drive him to school today. It was good to see her when our remote lesson started. Joshua simply must review nightly and each weekend for this exam that will be here in just a little over 2 weeks on May 11. It is vital for Joshua to intensify his review and preparation efforts for the May 11, 2023 exam in 2 weeks.

Current Events/What is Espionage?
Lesson Outline
Today we discussed the suspect in a recent leak of classified Pentagon documents posted on social media. Jack Teixeira, a 21-year-old airman with the Massachusetts Air National Guard, was charged under the Espionage Act for posting classified information to an invite-only Discord chatroom. He was actually arrested at his parents' home over the weekend. We then discussed the definition of espionage. Espionage can be spying, or intelligence gathering, the act of obtaining secret or confidential information that can hurt one's country and put national security and people in danger. A person who commits espionage is called an espionage agent or spy. Any individual or spy ring, in the service of a government, company, criminal organization, or independent operation, can commit espionage. After learning its meaning, Cameron was unsure if this person in custody committed an act of espionage.
