Andrew is getting it! woohoo! Today We continued working with arc length and area. Andrew had to change the degrees to radians and then use that value in the equations. Andrew did the problems correctly and on his own, for the first time without me guiding him. I was so excited we did the "griddy" dance in class. LOL Next we practiced the same concept with a slight challenge. Andrew had some trouble with it, but participated and tried his best. Tomorrow he will have a quiz.
Today PJ and I started to review for his Chapter 5 Test. We practiced writing and solving 1 and 2-step equations. We practiced using inverse operations to solve. PJ demonstrated he understands how the solutions work, by checking his work at the end. We worked on translating math words into actual expressions/equations. We also practiced setting up and solving inequalities. PJ is doing an excellent job with this content.
Today Matthew and I worked on solving triangles. We were only given 1 angle and 1 side. Matthew had to use the fact that the sum of the angles in a triangle add to 180 degrees. So if one angle is given, the other is right (90), then we can find the third angle by subtracting them from 180. To find the sides, Matthew had to determine what trig function would relate the given angle and side length. He had a few options, so I explained to him it is up to him to choose what trig function he prefers working with. Matthew did an excellent job with these. I started to show him how to do one problem, and he completed it for me. He jumped to the next problem and was able to complete it with no help. Great job!
We continued working with linear functions today. We practiced writing the equations of a line given a point it passes through and an equation that is either parallel or perpendicular to our line. We know parallel lines have the same slope and perpendicular lines have the opposite reciprocal slope. Carson worked with slope intercept form of a line, substituted the x and y values and then used it to find the y -intercept of the graph. I made sure Carson wasn't just memorizing the process by asking him What if type questions. He showed me he has a good understanding of this material.
Richard used magnetic letters to practice his spelling words and words with dis, ex, and in prefixes. He played Roll and Read to practice CVVC words. He read books with words he can read.
I told Philip that Monday is Earth Day and asked him to tell me about his bees. He described the process of caring for bees and collecting honey. We discussed the importance of honey to health. I told him about the use of honey on the wounds of turtles at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

We had a very good discussion. I enjoyed learning about bees. We had a few minutes left, so we played ping pong.
