Ben had already finished his activity. He had difficulty with one of the assignments. We both agreed it would be best for him to wait for clarification from Mr. Doran
Today we started by reviewing the inequality symbols: greater than (or equal to), less than (or equal to), or not equal to. Then we worked in our textbook work word expressions. PJ had to read the problem then translate it into a math expression. PJ translated problems like "n is at most 15" and "t can be no more than 9". PJ did a great job with this. We will add onto this concept tomorrow.
Today Andrew and I started a new section on arc length and area. I realized that Andrew has no prior knowledge of radians so we started with a lesson on that. I showed Andrew that radians are a different way to measure angles (like feet, centimeters, etc. are different ways to measure length). I showed Andrew how to convert degrees to radians by using the proportion pi/180 and cross multiplying. I did an example for Andrew and then had him try them himself. We will get more practice with this tomorrow.
Today Carson worked in the online account finishing his Cumulative Assessment. He got a 59% on it. Afterwards, I printed out his data to see what topics he understands, and what topics he needs more practice with. I was surprised to see he did poorly on the Geometry section which we just completed. He thinks he got the questions right but maybe rounded incorrectly. We didn't have time today, but tomorrow we will go through each of the problems he got wrong and determine if it was an error in understanding or just how he entered in his answer.
Today JPaul and I began a new lesson on Trigonometric Ratios. This is a topic JPaul and I previously discussed in Algebra 2 this past summer, so he had a decent understanding already. We discussed all 6 trig functions. We used the acronym SOHCAHTOA to help us set up the sides. When all 3 side lengths weren't given, we used the Pythagorean Theorem to find the third side. We reviewed the skills needed to simplify correctly, like rationalizing.
