Quiz
Lesson Outline
Carson and I started class by reviewing the Pythagorean theorem properties. Then Carson took a Quiz. He got a 100% on it! The only comment I made was a better way to simplify radicals. Carson got the answer Sqrt (112). He used the factor tree to break it down, but then forgot where to go from there. He used his calculator to simplify it. I showed him how to simplify it if he did not have access to his calculator.

SAT Review
Lesson Outline
Joshua got access to the SAT questions he got wrong on the Practice Test he took last week. He took a screen shot and emailed them to me. We printed them and worked on the problems together. The content the questions were on covered material he really would not have seen in a traditional math class. Some of the problems used formulas he had to have memorized. We looked up the Math Reference sheet that is provided and realized it is mostly Geometry formulas for area and volume. Anything Algebra related, they assume the student knows. So the review proved to be good for Joshua. I was able to remind him of the quadratic formulas, the discriminant, how to set up sequence equations, and more. Moving forward, we will work on one or two problems for SAT and then focus on our AP PreCalc stuff.

Today I substituted for Carson's science class (my student Matthew was absent). There were no sub plans left so Carson helped me clean up from Black History Month. Then, we gathered the supplies he would need to finish up his art piece for the show on Thursday.

Unit 2B Review
Lesson Outline
Joshua and I started class by going through the test prep problems I assigned him for homework. He did fairly well on them. We reviewed the problems he had questions with. Then, we worked on a practice Free Response Question. It pulled concepts from earlier this year, so it was a good review and challenge for us. We also reviewed properties of logarithms, how to evaluate them, graphing characteristics, and solving exponential and logarithmic equations. Joshua is going to complete a take home test this weekend.

I had an activity for Ben and I to work on today to practice exponent properties. He asked me if he could have a few minutes to continue working on his lego set. I told him he could have 5 minutes. When time was up, he asked to use the restroom. When he came back I prompted him to get started on the activity. He complained he didn't feel well. I told him that we were going to have recess during our period, so let's do a few problems to be a little productive today. He ignored me and played his video. At that point we only had a few minutes left in class, so I didn't press it.

Solving Equations
Lesson Outline
Today PJ and I continued working with one step equations. He is doing a great job of being able to determine the answer in his head. Today we focused on showing the work. I am trying to get PJ to develop the skills now, to solve equations with organized and legible work. In an equation such as x+3=5, PJ can easily determine that x=2. However, today we focused on subtracting 3 on the left side of the equation to cancel the 3's out, and then showing the -3 on the right side as well. Our class got cut short because PJ left for a family reunion. We will continue working on this next week.
