Unit 2B Review
Lesson Outline
Today we reviewed last night's homework on Semi-Log Plots. I was happy with how Josh did on the assignment. It wasn't easy but he seemed to pick up on it well. I always tell Joshua to never spend more than 45 minutes on his homework. He only completed 2/3 of the assignment but wrote "worked 45 minutes and stopped".
Next, he asked me some questions about his SAT test the other day. He ran into some problems with equations of a circle. I showed him on the white board the general equation of a circle centered around (h,k) with radius r. I don't think he's ever learned how to do those problems, so it was a good tutorial for him.

Quadrilaterals Review
Lesson Outline
Today we continued reviewing Quadrilaterals. We focused on the properties of their diagonals. We noticed in all parallelograms that the diagonals bisect each other. So this is also true with rhombuses, squares, and rectangles. We noticed that in a rectangle, square, isosceles trapezoid, the diagonals are congruent. In a kite, the diagonals only bisect one side. After we discussed the characteristics, Andrew and I worked on a chart activity. Andrew read qualifications, like "two sets of congruent sides" and then had to match the appropriate quadrilaterals to the characteristics. This seemed to help Andrew find the differences and similarities between these shapes. He will have a Quiz on Monday.

Pythagorean Theorem
Lesson Outline
Today Carson and I worked on a Pythagorean Theorem Quiz Prep. He did a great job. He was asked to find the missing sides of a triangle given 2 sides. He had to determine if he was solving for the leg or the hypotenuse and then apply the Pythagorean Theorem to solve. We reviewed that knowing the Pythagorean Triples can help him save some time. On Monday he will have a quiz.

Quiz Review/College
Lesson Outline
Today we graded JPaul's quiz. He got an 81% on it. The mistakes he made were mostly due to incorrectly expanding the logarithms. We made the corrections and he understood his mistakes. Then we looked at the curriculum ahead. We have several options on what content we choose to study the rest of the year. We discussed that JPaul wants to focus on business so it's likely he will be taking a business calculus course. So we decided to leave functions and focus on trig and the beginning of calculus for the remainder of the course.

Quiz/ACT
Lesson Outline
First, I graded Matthew's Quiz. He got an 88% on it. We went through the problems and corrected the mistakes he made; most of which came from not simplifying completely. Then I pulled some ACT problems on Logarithms. We worked on Multiple choice problems that involve expanding, condensing, and evaluating logs. We will continue to work on ACT Math when we have a spare 5-10 minutes here and there.
