Today we finished 3.7 and began to review for the Chapter 3 Test. We reviewed how to combine like terms. PJ practiced combining expressions such as 3x-4+5x-7 to get 8x-11. PJ has shown the understanding of what it means to be "like terms" (as well as unlike terms). PJ also practiced using substitution to evaluate expressions, along with the order of operations to simplify. He did a great job working. We will review the next day and then he will take a test.
Today I substituted for Ms. Teresa. I met Kaitlin on TEAMS as she was in Jacksonville for a show. We covered a lesson on translations and reflections. She used graph paper and drew her own coordinate planes. We practiced reflecting points and figures over the x and y axes as well as over horizontal and vertical lines. She did a good job responding to my questions. We discussed how when reflecting over the y-axis the x-values are what change and when reflecting over the x-axis the y-values are what change.
Today JPaul and I had a lesson on the common logarithm and the natural logarithm. He took notes as we discussed how the common log has a base of 10 and the natural log has a base of e (e=2.71828....). We then practiced evaluating logarithmic expressions using this approach.
Since it had been a few days since we had a lesson, we used today's class to review. I wrote a few problems on the board. Matthew used the expo marker and wrote his solutions out on his desk. He was a little rusty at first, so this proved to be a good review. He practiced going from exponential form to logarithmic form (and vice versa). Then he practiced solving logarithms by putting them in exponential form. Then he practiced using his calculator to evaluate logs (including the natural log).
Kellan wrote his spelling words in his dictionary. In his journal, he wrote about one character from The Watsons Go to Birmingham. We read the book and discussed it.

I complimented Kellan on his improved reading. I am really pleased to see that his reading level has increased to be able to read this book. He also displays more confidence and doesn't say that he can't do it.
